Take care of you First! Put your mask on

Tend to you, then you can create the life you want

I read a book by Joseph O'Conner, an NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) workbook and one of the things that stuck out in my mind was when he used that analogy we talk about in the video, how we have to put our masks on first, before we can be effective. This is the foundation for changing your life, putting your mask on. They call bettering yourself, Personal Development and Self Improvement. Those names now have associations in that people have associated certain beliefs, or understandings to them. One of the things you can get from this video is the fact that it's much more than those two things, Personal Development and Self Improvement. Below is a list of things it really is, how you can start looking at it and a new association you can make to bettering your life.

  1. Intelligence - When you start to better yourself, you develop a new kind of intelligence. This intelligence allows you to navigate the territory of the world a lot more effectively because you now have a good working map.

  2. Awareness - You start to become aware of some of the things you never knew about. Engaging in bettering yourself will invariably bring epiphany after epiphany into your life. You'll start to become aware of yourself, other people and the way the world works as well as in your own actions, what's effective and what isn't.

  3. Resourcefulness - When you take the time to better yourself, and begin to control your internal world, you start to become adept at using both your own internal resources, as well as the many resources available to you in the world. Often times, human beings are unaware of the powerful resources out there that can help them to get where they want to be.

  4. Effectiveness - When you start to learn more about yourself, and begin to cultivate true command over your life, you start to become a highly effective individual. You'll create promotions at your job, new empowering friendships, you'll find ways to become better at the things you are doing now and because most of us interact with other people, they'll notice!

  5. Personal Power - The Power to influence yourself. Tony Robbins calls Personal Power the ability to take action and guess what? I agree 100%. But I also think it's the ability to influence yourself to do the things you know you should do in your life, and to be in complete control over your thoughts!

  6. Control - The ability to control and direct your internal processes which lead to a great degree of control of your life. Many people lose control over their lives and end up giving up completely. You don't want to end up in that place! Learning about the things on my website, and all of the other human potential and effectiveness resources ACTIVATES your INHERENT ability to control your life in a major way.

  7. Developing skills - You will develop skills that can get you anywhere you truly want to be in your life. Doesn't that sound ever so hyperbole? It isn't. People's language, "I am no good at this, I am a bad BLANK, I am not a morning person," are the only real barriers to what they cannot (or are not) doing in their lives. Take control of what you say to yourself, and to other people on a consistent basis! Personal development will lead you to the bettering of the things that will take you where you want to go.

  8. Creating Happiness! - You'll find that your happiness skyrockets when you decide not only to take control, but as a result of the things you'll create (happiness being one of them) when you decide to learn how to take care of your internal processes and learn about yourself.

That is personal development and self improvement! I'm moving people away from the old associations of "self help guru's," this is what taking command is really about! Add to my list, comment below! The point here is that these things, are the things to truly become aware of and develop before you can really influence your life and create your reality. Put your mask on, square yourself away and then your life will inevitably follow.
