What, besides drugs, radiation and surgery can reverse the effects of Cancer, sometimes even diminishing the disease completely? If you ask Dr Dean Ornish, you may hear something that society as a whole looks at with disbelief. What, besides getting a new car, winning the lottery, having someone do something really amazing for us or for things to just suddenly work the way we want them to work, helps us to decrease stress in a huge way? What, besides going on fasts, doing the atkins diet or starving yourself can truly help you to have an incredible level of vitality, great health and can drop those unwanted pounds off of your body?
I have come across some pretty crazy diets in my time! At one point, I wasn't an in shape, energy filled ready to explode kind of individual. I was an overweight, negative minded, resentful guy. I never really gave a crap about my health, because I had the illusion that just because I was young and didn't have any effects showing, I could eat however I wanted, as long as I didn't completely overdue it. Even when I was in the Army, I ate like crap, I drank beer (when we were in the states) and I hated Army physical training. When I got out, I was in great shape because I had just done 3 1/2 years of mental and physical conditioning, and a tour in Baghdad with 140 degree weather. But I still didn't get it. It wasn't until I made the major switch in my life. When I began reading personal development material and started applying what I was learning into my life, the shift happened. I learned about the Acid Alkaline balance in our bodies and how eating Green, Live foods was one of the most healthy things you could ever do and how drinking things like coffee, eating an excess of meat and consuming artificially made, hormone injected, horrible for your cells, cancer causing foods, was literally killing me. Your body needs a good balance of Acid and Alkaline. In our society, in America, we consume a bit to many acid foods, and not enough alkaline! Fat actually stays in your body as a result of too much acid because it has to protect your major organs. When people say "eat vegetables and you'll be healthy," or "that's not good for you," LISTEN, IT'S REALLY REALLY TRUE. Studies have proven that Cancer and Heart Disease are diet and lifestyle related, most of the time. Some alkaline foods, very rich in real energy and incredibly beneficial for your body to help it run at it's peak, the way it was designed to run, are Broccoli, Avocado (I believe) celery, grapefruit (acid on the outside, alkaline effect on the inside) green peppers, SALADS and plenty of others! Great things to drink would of course be water, LEMON JUICE in the water, low sodium V8 and more. I know, we all like soda's, red bulls and the like but sooner or later, those things put us in very unhealthy positions. Don't wait until the doctor tells you that you MUST change your entire eating habit NOW or you'll face death in the upcoming years, and you're only 50.
Make the decision now to consume the right things! Find a way of eating that is right for you. I wake up, and eat broccoli. I have fruit throughout the day. I eat a lot of water rich foods, such as bananas, apples, carrots and other quick snacks and I drink an abundance of lemon water. Yes, every now and then I sneak a cookie in there! In fact, I found an incredibly tasty, yet profoundly healthy solution for the sweet tooth syndrome. Well, I developed a tool or a strategy we could use to get ourselves out of the state of wanting the food, by changing what's happening in our brains at the moment, but I've found a healthy alternative to sweets in organic granola bars. They have all types of flavors, all of which seriously kick butt. Find what works for you. Picture yourself 50 years from now, or 30 years from now. Will the you then like what you're eating? As you would guess, and as we've been proving more and more and people are starting to believe, diseases are being slowed down, stopped and reversed in many cases. Check out the article! Exercise! It has been proven, that a good exercise routine is more effective than the popular heart surgery Angioplasty. Can you believe that? Well, let's find out why it's so beneficial. Your lymphatic system transports a watery fluid throughout your body called lymph. It distributes immune cells all over your body and is responsible for the transport of fatty acids and more! The immune cells that it distributes, work to protect the body from antigens (bacteria's and viruses). This system, doesn't have a PUMP to rely on like your blood does your heart, so if it doesn't have a way to circulate through your body, it isn't as effective as it could be. It relies on your breathing. When you breath, you allow it to move throughout your body and do it's normal operation. Essentially, this system works based on your movement. If you're out there hitting the pavement, working up a sweat, breathing heavy and moving your body, your the lymph is moving around your body doing its job effectively! Additionally, studies have shown that a good exercise routine significantly reverses some of the damage done to a smoker after he/she quits. Listen, people get heart disease and die at 50 because they're eating the wrong kinds of foods and they're not exercising. If people live from something horrible such as a heart attack, what does the doc tell them? He tells them, eat right, stay away from stress, and exercise. It is so important that you exercise, not just to benefit your health but also because it sends pure oxygenated blood to your brain, allowing you to think more effectively throughout your day. I see exercise as a healthy recharging of sorts, that has huge bonuses (great looking body, self discipline, high metabolism, vitality, energy)!
Meditation! When most people think of meditation, they think of something religious and immediately want to turn the other cheek. People have some crazy generalizations about it, it's nuts! But forget what people think, what do you think? Meditation is in no way an attempt to connect with God, however I do believe you connect to something God like when you do it, if not God him/herself. Meditation, or just clearing your mind and existing, is one of the most powerful brain optimizing, stress reducing, disease preventing, thing you could ever do. You can tap into ideas you never thought you could think, come up with solutions you didn't know existed and truly optimize your thought processes in an extremely effective way. It has been said that in a deep alpha state (the brain state you go in when you meditate), you can connect to something much larger than yourself, an infinite field of knowing and intelligence, a very real and powerful place. Well, before I actually tried it, I didn't believe any of that. I was like a lot of people who hear ideas, hear about things, and have auto responses based basically upon things they've heard from other people. Then, I decided to open my mind up a bit. I actually wrote the first 10 articles of Power of a Positive Mind in like one day, after a 45 minute session of pure consciousness. I became addicted! Clearing your mind, and giving it the opportunity to just exist, is one of the most healthy things you can do both for your mind and your body. You'll notice that you can think more clear, you act in more of a decisive way, you become more connected with the world and probably most powerfully, you become connected with and actually find, your true self. That has power. In Dr Ornish's studies, he implements meditation into the routines of the patients. He has done many studies, all of which have proven his theory that these things can reverse disease, and DO prevent it. Currently, he is finishing up a 5 year study, ending in August that we are all anxious to see the results from!
We live in a world of skepticism. That will end in 4-500 years I predict but for now, it's imminent. Most of us believe that those things have nothing to do with health, and that the only thing that can help something physical, is something physical. The psychology of societies today believe that whatever is going on subjectively, doesn't matter and that only what we can prove does. The reason? Because when you haven't tried shrimp, and you're 11 years old, you just say it's gross and leave it at that. Additionally, people believe what other people around them believe. If we change what we believe as a society, whatever we then believe becomes true. The purpose of this article is for me to convey to you a message. The message that these things, meditation and eating the right kinds of foods, will take you out of stress, put you into resourceful places, give you incredible ideas, allow your body to operate at it's peak, the way it was engineered to work, prevent disease, guide you to get what you want out of life, will optimize your thoughts, will make you more of an effective human being, will help you to make an awesome and powerful connection with yourself, and can eliminate and reverse disease. These things will be inherent in the minds of all human beings in hundreds of years. We're still evolving, we're still learning, there are still paradigm shifts and there will continue to be. Of course we don't know everything yet, how would we grow if we did? These things are being accepted more and more, as time goes on and eventually, will be status quo.
